Feng Shui Bedroom Furniture

A project in collaboration with Cinius Torino for a Feng Shui bedroom design.

This article shows an example of Feng Shui furniture for a bedroom oriented to the southeast, using wood, and the colors green, purple, and lilac. The MARU bed fits the Feng Shui criteria well due to its lack of sharp corners and its rounded shape. The beech headboard offers excellent “Turtle” protection as suggested by Feng Shui principles.

The bed’s orientation is fundamental in Feng Shui: the ideal direction is with the head facing north, as this aligns the body with the Earth’s magnetic field. However, this is not always possible because you also need to consider other important Feng Shui factors, such as the relative positions of doors and windows. You can therefore also orient your bed in other favorable directions like east and southeast, although having your head pointed eastward can “tune” your body to the sunrise, leading to an early awakening. On the other hand, the south is a direction to avoid: having your head pointed in the opposite direction from the north is considered harmful.

Good Feng Shui furniture for a bedroom takes into account the arrangement of the so-called cosmic animals: “Dragon,” “Phoenix,” “Tiger,” and “Turtle.” A helpful tip is to avoid placing bulky furniture and mirrors in front of the bed. The direction you face while in bed is called the “Phoenix” and should be represented by a pleasant view, such as a nice painting or photograph. You should also avoid tall and imposing furniture on the sides of the bed. Dressers and chests of drawers are acceptable, but without mirrors, which reflect your image while you sleep.

Another useful tip for good Feng Shui furniture in any bedroom is to avoid monotony, so it’s suggested that you change the bedspread, perhaps following the rhythm of the seasons. The color and shape of the patterns should be chosen based on the direction of the bedroom. The example shown features rectangular and triangular shapes with purple and green colors, which represent the wood and fire elements of the east and south directions where the bed is placed.
